Security Forces Intensify Operations Against Criminal Enclaves Across Northwest Nigeria
Security forces across Nigeria’s Northwest region have significantly ramped up operations targeting criminal and terrorist strongholds, reporting a series of successful offensives that have resulted in the elimination of several militants and the recovery of vital equipment. This intensified campaign, spanning Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states, underscores a renewed commitment to dismantling criminal networks and protecting vulnerable communities.
In coordinated actions conducted this past week, troops have engaged and neutralized at least six suspected bandits. Alongside these kinetic successes, security agencies have also achieved crucial rescues of abducted individuals, demonstrating a multi-faceted approach to restoring peace and security.
Key Operations and Recoveries
The Nigerian Army, through various operational commands, has been at the forefront of this renewed onslaught. These efforts are explicitly aimed at safeguarding civilian populations and disrupting the operations of groups that have plagued the North-West for years.

On March 25th, troops operating under the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in the Magonho Forest. In two separate confrontations, three bandits were neutralized. This operation yielded significant recoveries, including three AK-47 rifles and several motorcycles, which are often utilized by these criminal elements for mobility and logistics.Zamfara State Successes:
Zamfara State witnessed multiple operational breakthroughs on the same day. Troops successfully laid an ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari road, resulting in the death of two terrorists. Several other militants were forced to flee.

Later, in a separate incident, troops foiled a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village. The assailants had reportedly targeted the village due to accusations of locals collaborating with security forces. During the engagement, one additional terrorist was neutralized, and another rifle was recovered.
Further demonstrating a proactive stance, an intelligence-led clearance operation was conducted in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area. Under sustained pressure from the troops, fleeing terrorists were compelled to abandon their weapons and ammunition.
Kebbi State Ambush and Response:
In Kebbi State, troops responded to credible intelligence regarding the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in the Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area. However, the troops encountered an ambush approximately 500 metres from the village. Despite the surprise attack, the security forces held their ground, and reinforcements, including combat support, were swiftly deployed to the area, neutralizing the immediate threat and stabilizing the situation.
