A Farewell to a Veteran Leader
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recently held a vibrant farewell parade and pulling-out ceremony at Burma Camp, celebrating the retirement of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Addo Daniel after over three decades of distinguished service. The event was not only a tribute to his long and dedicated career but also a formal handover to the incoming Forces Sergeant Major, Master Warrant Officer Zakaria Alhassan.
Honoring a Legacy of Service
Colonel Danso Ankrah, the Director of Human Resource, emphasized that the gathering was more than just a farewell—it was an acknowledgment of a life committed to service, discipline, and leadership. He described CWO Addo Daniel as a “soldier’s soldier,” highlighting his role as a crucial link between the officer corps and other ranks. His guidance and stability were instrumental in shaping effective military leadership.
“His legacy is not retiring with him. It remains etched in every soldier he mentored and every non-commissioned officer he groomed,” Col. Ankrah said. He praised CWO Addo Daniel for maintaining high standards of discipline and professionalism within the ranks. His contributions during national parades, military engagements, and training programs will be remembered for years to come.
He also expressed gratitude to the family of the retiring officer, especially his wife and children, for their sacrifices and unwavering support throughout his service.
A Farewell Address
In his farewell address, CWO Addo Daniel thanked the Military High Command and personnel of the GAF for their support during his tenure. He noted that the Armed Forces had seen significant improvements in discipline and professionalism, citing the selection of the GAF by the Rwanda Defence Force for understudy of its Non-Commissioned Officers Corps as a testament to these gains.
“The successes chalked are a reflection of our collective spirit and teamwork,” CWO Addo Daniel stated, urging personnel to extend even greater support to his successor. Reflecting on his career, he remarked, “Every beginning had an end,” adding that it was time for him to bow out after years of meritorious service with an unblemished record.
He expressed appreciation to past and present Chiefs of Defence Staff, including Vice Admiral Seth Amoama (Rtd), General Thomas Oppong-Peprah (Rtd), and Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the current CDS, for their guidance and trust during his tenure.
Celebrating Contributions
CWO Addo Daniel also thanked officers, soldiers, and civilian staff who supported him throughout his career, wishing the incoming Forces Sergeant Major success in his new role. The ceremony featured military drills, honours, and the symbolic pulling-out parade, marking the end of his active service and celebrating his contributions to the GAF.
Final Thoughts
As CWO Addo Daniel steps down, his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of military personnel. His dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on the Ghana Armed Forces. The ceremony served as a reminder of the importance of mentorship, teamwork, and the enduring values that define a strong military institution.
The transition to Master Warrant Officer Zakaria Alhassan marks a new chapter for the GAF, one that will undoubtedly build upon the foundation laid by CWO Addo Daniel.
