The Australian healthcare sector experienced significant volatility in March, with the S&P/ASX Healthcare Index falling approximately 7% amid global market turmoil. This decline was largely attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which led to rising energy prices, higher bond yields, and a general slump in equities. Investors across Australia were also grappling with increasing interest rates, as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) raised the cash rate by 25 basis points to 4.10% during its March meeting. • Amplia Therapeutics (ASX:ATX): Surged approximately 96% after reporting four new confirmed responses from its Phase Ib/IIa pancreatic cancer trial, Accent. Fresh data from an independent analysis brought the total number of complete responders to five, representing an unprecedented 7.8% response rate among 64 patients.
• 4D Medical Limited (ASX:4DX): Rose 39% following positive announcements, including European clearance for its CT:VQ ventilation perfusion tool. The company also announced that the Mayo Clinic would deploy CT:VQ, marking the sixth academic medical centre to do so since FDA approval in September 2025.
• Optiscan Imaging (ASX:OIL): Gained 23.5% after submitting a regulatory dossier to the US FDA’s Centre for Veterinary Medicine for its InSpecta microscopic imaging device, designed specifically for the veterinary market.
