Federal Secretariat Staff to Work Remotely Amidst APC National Convention
Abuja, Nigeria – Federal civil servants stationed at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja have been instructed to work from home on Friday, March 27, 2026. This directive precedes the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a significant political event scheduled to take place in the capital city.
The instruction was formally communicated through a circular issued by Abdul Garba, Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, on behalf of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The move is a precautionary measure to manage logistics and security surrounding the high-profile APC gathering.
Road Closures Implemented for Convention Security
In conjunction with the work-from-home directive, all access roads leading to and encircling the Federal Secretariat Complex, encompassing Phases I, II, and III, will be temporarily closed. These closures are slated to be in effect from Friday, March 27, through Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The official circular explicitly stated: “All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat, Phases I, II & III are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads leading to and around the said Federal Secretariat Complex, from Friday, 27th to Saturday, 28th March, 2026.”
The rationale behind these stringent measures is the utilization of Eagle Square, a prominent venue in Abuja, for the APC’s national convention. The circular elaborated on this, noting, “This is due to the use of Eagle Square for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party on the said dates.”
Remote Work Mandate for Affected Personnel
Consequently, all personnel whose duties are based within Phases I, II, and III of the Federal Secretariat Complex, as well as those at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are required to operate remotely on Friday, March 27, 2026. The directive emphasized, “Accordingly, all personnel whose offices are located within Phases I, II and III of the Federal Secretariat Complex as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are to work from home on Friday, 27th March, 2026.”
Ensuring Strict Adherence to the Directive
The responsibility for ensuring strict compliance with this work-from-home order has been placed upon the heads of the various ministries, departments, and agencies. They are tasked with disseminating the information to their respective staff members and guaranteeing that the directive is followed without exception.
The circular further stipulated: “All concerned Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies are kindly requested to bring the content of this Circular to the attention of their staff, and ensure strict compliance.”
APC National Convention: A Pivotal Political Gathering
The APC’s national convention, scheduled to be held at Eagle Square, represents a significant event on Nigeria’s political calendar. The convention is anticipated to draw a substantial number of party leaders, delegates, and supporters from across the nation. This gathering serves as a crucial platform for internal party deliberations, strategic planning, and the setting of the agenda for future political activities. Discussions are expected to encompass a range of internal party matters and lay the groundwork for the party’s preparations leading up to the 2027 general elections. The convention’s timing underscores its importance in shaping the political landscape and the APC’s trajectory in the coming years.
