A profound sense of sorrow has enveloped Kano, Nigeria, following the untimely death of Hafsatu Yusuf, a woman who recently welcomed quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. The tragic development was confirmed by Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Ministry of Health, who spoke with reporters on Thursday.
According to K/Na’isa, Yusuf passed away at approximately 2:00 PM at the hospital. Her death followed a period of persistent bleeding that commenced immediately after the successful delivery of her five newborns – three boys and two girls. Despite the dedicated efforts of medical professionals to stabilize her condition, their attempts proved unsuccessful.
Following Islamic traditions, Hafsatu Yusuf was laid to rest at her residence in Hotoro.
The Kano State Ministry of Health has issued an earnest appeal to the public for support for the newborn quintuplets. The ministry is requesting donations of milk and other essential items to aid in the care of the five infants.
Despite the devastating loss of their mother, the quintuplets are reported to be in stable condition. They are currently receiving comprehensive medical attention and care at the hospital, where medical staff are working diligently to ensure their well-being.
This heartbreaking incident occurred just hours after the Kano State Government had publicly announced its commitment to covering the medical expenses for both Hafsatu Yusuf and her five babies. The government’s intervention was intended to alleviate the financial burden on the family and ensure optimal care for the newborns and their mother.
In a prior statement, the Ministry of Health had expressed optimism regarding the delivery, confirming that the quintuplets were born successfully and had been placed under specialized medical supervision alongside their mother.
The husband of the deceased, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, had previously conveyed his gratitude to the state government for its timely intervention and support during this critical period. He described the government’s assistance as invaluable.
The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to enhancing maternal and child healthcare services throughout the state. This commitment aims to significantly reduce mortality rates among mothers and children and to foster a healthier environment for families across Kano. The tragic loss of Hafsatu Yusuf underscores the critical importance of continued investment and support for maternal healthcare initiatives.
The Kano State Ministry of Health continues to monitor the condition of the quintuplets closely. Further updates regarding their health and any ongoing support initiatives will be provided as they become available. The community and government officials alike are rallying to offer solace and practical assistance to the grieving family during this incredibly challenging time. The focus remains on ensuring the survival and healthy development of the five precious infants who have brought both immense joy and profound sorrow to their family and the wider community.
