Soldier Injured in Alleged Stabbing Incident at Brisbane Army Base
A serious incident unfolded at Enoggera Barracks, also known as Gallipoli Barracks, in Brisbane’s north-west on Friday afternoon, resulting in a male soldier sustaining a stab wound. Emergency services were alerted to an altercation at the sprawling military facility around 12:20 PM.
According to a Queensland Police spokesperson, the male soldier suffered a “non-life-threatening puncture wound” during the alleged confrontation. He was promptly transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he was reported to be in a stable condition receiving medical attention.
A 31-year-old woman was apprehended by authorities at the scene within nine minutes of the initial report. Police also confirmed the seizure of a weapon believed to be involved in the incident. The woman has since been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and in company. She is scheduled to appear before a Brisbane court on Saturday.
The barracks, a significant hub within Australia’s defence network, was a scene of considerable activity following the incident, with numerous police vehicles observed entering and exiting the premises throughout Friday afternoon. This event marks the second significant security-related occurrence at an Australian Defence Force base in recent days. Just two days prior, Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, North Queensland, was placed under lockdown after an intruder managed to gain unauthorized access to the site.
Following the Townsville incident, military police maintained a visible presence, patrolling the Lavarack Barracks while access gates to the base were secured. Strict protocols were implemented, requiring visitors to obtain prior permission before entering the facility. It is important to note that unauthorised entry onto a military base is a serious offence.
The proximity of these two incidents at different military installations raises questions about security protocols and the potential for breaches. While the Brisbane incident appears to involve a direct altercation with an alleged weapon, the Townsville event highlights concerns regarding external access to defence sites.
