For the first time, the traditional East vs. West format is being retired. The 2026 NBA All-Star Game will feature a U.S. squad going head-to-head with an international contingent. The games are scheduled to be broadcast live on Sunday, February 15th, kicking off at 5 p.m. ET (which translates to a respectable 2 p.m. PT, or 8 a.m. AEDT the following day in Australia) from the state-of-the-art Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, the home turf of the LA Clippers.

Tournament Format and Team Composition

The revamped All-Star Game will not be a single contest but a mini-tournament. Three teams will compete: two representing the United States and one formidable “World” team. These squads will engage in a round-robin format, playing a total of four 12-minute games. The Selection Process for Reserves

The selection of NBA All-Star reserves follows a well-established, albeit slightly adjusted, process. A total of 24 All-Stars are chosen, with 12 representing each conference.

• Starters: The five starters for each conference are determined through a weighted voting system, with fans contributing 50% of the vote, NBA players 25%, and a media panel the remaining 25%.
• Reserves: The seven reserve players for each conference are then handpicked by the NBA’s head coaches. A notable change for this year is that player positions will not be a factor in the reserve selections, adding an extra layer of strategic consideration for coaches.

The league has also put in place a contingency to guarantee the desired player distribution. If the initial voting and selections do not result in a roster of sixteen U.S. players and eight international players (including American players with ties to other nations, if deemed necessary), NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will personally step in to designate additional participants to meet the minimum requirements. This ensures that the U.S. vs. World theme remains central to the All-Star Game.
