Sarah Aspin, a woman whose life became intertwined with the tragic love story of music icon Amy Winehouse and her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, has passed away at the age of 47. Her death was confirmed by her daughter, Melody-Rose Hampshire, who shared a heartfelt tribute online.

“No words at all. Love you so mum,” Hampshire wrote, expressing her grief. “May you rest in eternal peace my beautiful mum. Doesn’t seem real. Just want you here and speak to you about your crazy antics.”

Aspin’s cousin, Leanne Eastwood, also shared her sorrow, stating, “Sweet dreams to my beautiful cousin Sarah Aspin. Hope you finally found peace. Till we meet again gutted – feeling sad.”

The circumstances surrounding Aspin’s death are currently being investigated. According to reports, her body was discovered at a property in the village of Swillington, Leeds, on Saturday, February 7th. Police were called to the scene following a concern for safety report. A woman was treated by paramedics but sadly died a short time later. Authorities have stated that her death is being treated as unexplained.

A man was found at the property and taken into police custody, though this was reportedly for an offence unrelated to Aspin’s death. Police and forensic specialists remained at the scene for an extended period, conducting their investigation.

Sarah Aspin’s life became notably linked to Blake Fielder-Civil in 2011, approximately two years after his tumultuous marriage to Amy Winehouse had officially ended. Fielder-Civil and Winehouse, whose relationship was as famously volatile as it was passionate, first met in 2005, married in 2007, and divorced in 2009.

Aspin and Fielder-Civil reportedly met while both were undergoing rehabilitation. Their relationship led to them having two children together. It is understood that they had separated around 2018.

Even during Winehouse’s lifetime, Aspin was vocal about her relationship with Fielder-Civil. She publicly asserted her claim over him, reportedly warning Winehouse to “keep her hands off” and declaring, “He is mine and we are a family now.”

Tragically, just days after Aspin’s strong assertion and as Fielder-Civil began serving a 32-month prison sentence for burglary and a firearm offence, Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011, at the age of 27.

Following Winehouse’s death, Aspin spoke publicly about Fielder-Civil’s profound reaction. She recounted how Fielder-Civil had called her upon being informed of Winehouse’s death by prison authorities.

“Blake rang me on Saturday after the prison authorities told him she’d died. I just couldn’t console him. He was in total shock,” Aspin had said at the time. She described visiting him in a private room and witnessing his continuous sobbing fits, his devastation at Winehouse’s death, and his regret over not being able to save her.

“He is devastated and shattered. He just can’t take it in that she’s dead and he’ll never see her again,” Aspin elaborated.

Reflecting on their complex relationships, Aspin acknowledged the enduring love between Fielder-Civil and Winehouse. “Blake is the father of our son. But I saw him and Amy together and I know they were really in love and they were soulmates,” she stated. “She always loved him and he always loved her – but it was just never going to work. Basically they couldn’t live with each other and they could not live without each other.”

Aspin also shared her personal feelings about Fielder-Civil’s deep connection to Winehouse. “It is hard for me knowing he still loved her, but I do understand his feelings.”

She also believed that Winehouse struggled with the fact that Fielder-Civil and Aspin had a son together. “I think Amy could not get over the fact that Blake and I had had our son Jack. I think it hit her pretty hard.”

Despite Winehouse’s well-documented personal struggles, Aspin offered a compassionate perspective on her potential as a mother. “She would have made a fantastic mum, though, despite all her problems. What’s happened is so tragic – an absolute waste.”
