Nathan Buckley’s Unbelievable Career Shift Revealed

Nathan Buckley’s Surprising Move to Geelong Cats

Nathan Buckley, a former Collingwood great, has made a shocking decision that has caught many by surprise. After being overlooked for the head-coaching position with the Melbourne Demons and publicly expressing his interest in coaching the AFL’s new Tasmanian team, Buckley has instead chosen to join the Geelong Cats as their new assistant coach.

The move was officially announced on Tuesday morning, leaving football fans stunned. Buckley, 53, is currently working as an expert analyst for Fox Sports and SEN. According to reports, he will continue in his role with the broadcaster once he begins his duties with Geelong.

Geelong’s executive general manager of football, Andrew Mackie, expressed excitement about the addition of Buckley to the club. “We are excited to add Nathan to our Club and more specifically to our coaching group. He is respected and highly regarded across the football industry and brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective,” Mackie said in a statement.

“In speaking with Nathan, it was clear he had a strong appetite to return to coaching, and we look forward to welcoming him to our football program to work closely with our players and staff.”

A Strategic Decision

Last month, Buckley revealed that he was content with missing out on replacing Simon Goodwin as the coach of the Melbourne Demons. This decision gave him a chance to pursue the head coaching role with the Tasmania Devils.

“I had to risk sacrificing an opportunity to coach Melbourne to keep an opportunity to coach Tasmania, because the timelines just didn’t match up,” Buckley said.

“Melbourne, rightfully, made the decision on a coach that was absolutely all-in and wanted to do the job and that was Steven King.”

Buckley, who led the Magpies to the 2018 Grand Final, explained that he was more drawn to the Tasmania job than the Melbourne one. “Working with a new sporting franchise would be a unique opportunity,” he added.

A New Chapter

“I’d love to be involved in the Tassie process, and that journey. I’ll have a chat with them and see if that’s involved in a more official capacity,” Buckley said.

His decision to join Geelong comes after a period of reflection on his coaching career. “I haven’t really been able to say that until probably about a month ago,” he admitted.

Buckley’s move to Geelong highlights his continued passion for coaching and his desire to contribute to the growth of the sport. While the future of the Tasmania Devils remains uncertain, his decision to join the Cats signals a new chapter in his career.

Questions About the Future

As the football world continues to speculate, several questions remain unanswered. Why did Nathan Buckley choose the allure of Tasmania over the coaching role with Melbourne? Is he ready to take on the challenge of coaching the Tasmania Devils after his recent heartbreak? Could the ex-Collingwood legend steer the new Tasmanian AFL team to success, or is the Demons’ appeal too strong?

Additionally, there are rumors about other potential moves in the football landscape. Has footy legend Brendan Fevola just teased a jaw-dropping return to the AFL as a coach after spending a day with Collingwood?

More updates are expected as the story unfolds.
