The National Football League (NFL) has concluded its investigation into allegations of assault made by the ex-girlfriend of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice. The league has determined that Rice did not engage in conduct that violates its personal conduct policy, according to Adam Schefter.
Dacoda Jones, the mother of Rice’s children, filed a lawsuit earlier this year, accusing him of repeatedly assaulting her during their relationship, including when she was pregnant. The allegations included grabbing, choking, strangling, pushing, throwing, scratching, hitting, and headbutting. Jones claimed that these incidents escalated in December 2023 when Rice allegedly strangled her at their home in Texas. She also stated that the abuse continued until they separated in July 2025.
Jones alleged that Rice destroyed property, threw objects, punched walls, and broke furniture. She also claimed that he locked her out of the house in the middle of the night. These incidents reportedly occurred while she was pregnant, leading to multiple physical injuries and significant emotional distress.
In addition to the legal claims, Jones shared 14 photos and a lengthy statement on Instagram showing visible injuries and damage to her home. Although she did not explicitly name Rice in her post, it was widely interpreted as an accusation against him. However, she later deleted the social media content.
Rice faced other legal consequences for his actions. In July 2025, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his role in a multicar crash on a Dallas highway in May 2024. The incident involved racing a friend in a Lamborghini, which resulted in serious injuries to others. Rice was filmed fleeing the scene and later pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was ordered to pay $115,482 to the victims for medical expenses.
Despite these legal challenges, Rice is set to play a key role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ future. The team is expected to undergo changes during the offseason, with head coach Andy Reid overseeing the process. Rice, who signed a $6.5 million contract, will be central to the organization’s plans.
However, Rice’s season began with a six-game suspension due to his involvement in the Dallas car accident. He was also recovering from an ACL tear sustained the previous year, which further impacted his performance.
The NFL’s decision not to impose disciplinary action on Rice has sparked mixed reactions. While his attorney, Sean Lindsey, expressed gratitude for the thorough investigation, critics argue that the outcome may undermine the league’s commitment to addressing domestic violence allegations.
As the Chiefs prepare for the 2026-27 season, the focus will remain on rebuilding and strengthening the team. Rice’s future with the organization will likely depend on his ability to maintain a positive public image and demonstrate accountability for past actions.
More updates are expected as the situation continues to unfold.
