The vibrant community of Klikor, nestled within the Ketu South Municipality of Ghana’s Volta Region, has officially embarked on a significant environmental stewardship program. The launch of the ‘Keep Klikor Clean’ campaign, a grand ceremony held in the traditional capital, underscored a powerful commitment from local chiefs and residents to not only beautify their surroundings but also to foster a culture of healthy living.
The initiative, spearheaded by the newly installed Fiaga of Klikor, in collaboration with esteemed elders and passionate youth, aims to instill a deep-seated responsibility among citizens to maintain cleanliness throughout Klikor and its surrounding areas. This, in turn, is envisioned to significantly contribute to the overall health and well-being of the populace, acting as a crucial bulwark against various illnesses.
Providing crucial technical and logistical support for this commendable undertaking was El-Sayus Company Limited, a well-established property maintenance and professional cleaning service based in Accra. With a remarkable thirty-year track record in the health and cleaning sectors across Ghana, El-Sayus Company Limited demonstrated its dedication to community development by donating essential supplies. These included branded t-shirts and caps, a generous supply of waste bins, brooms, detergents, and cutlasses. Furthermore, the company augmented the community’s efforts by deploying some of its skilled staff members to actively participate in the clean-up exercise.
Following the official launch ceremony, a widespread clean-up operation swept through the entire Klikor Township. This comprehensive effort was strategically timed to enhance the community’s aesthetic appeal in anticipation of the upcoming final funeral rites for the late Fiaga of Klikor, Torgbui Addo VIII.
Residents and their leaders have expressed a strong resolve to ensure the sustainability of the ‘Keep Klikor Clean’ campaign. The intention is to implement periodic clean-up exercises, transforming the initiative into a consistent practice. This sustained effort is expected to yield multifaceted benefits, including the enhancement of community health, improved safety, and overall beautification. More importantly, the campaign seeks to project a positive and well-maintained image of Klikor to neighbouring communities and beyond.
The launch event was a testament to the community’s engagement, drawing a substantial crowd of residents and citizens, prominently led by their chiefs and queen mothers, with enthusiastic participation from the local youth.
Speaking at the auspicious occasion, the Fiaga of the Klikor Traditional Area, Torgbuiga Dr. Addo IX, conveyed his profound gratitude and overwhelming joy. He expressed his delight not only at the impressive turnout of his subjects but also at the robust support garnered from all stakeholders, including the esteemed chiefs and queen mothers.
Torgbuiga Addo IX highlighted Klikor’s historical significance as one of the oldest Anlo settlements. He noted that the town’s rich heritage and prominent name attract a considerable number of visitors, including those from the Diaspora. These visitors, he explained, often come to Klikor for various purposes, ranging from academic research conducted by student tourists to spiritual journeys to the Klikor Shrine, where they seek to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the area’s rich traditions and culture.
In his address, the Fiaga issued a pressing call to his people, urging them to prioritize their health. He specifically advised them to be mindful of their dietary choices, advocating for the avoidance of chemically treated foods wherever possible.
Several other respected traditional leaders also lent their voices to the campaign. Torgbui Korkudjah Tamekloe II, Dufia of Klikor Kpordoave, Torgbui Atsu Nteme II, Dufia of Adrume-Klikor, and Mama Hodzige II, Queen Mother of Klikor Ablorgame, shared their perspectives on the program. They collectively appealed for continued and expanded support for such vital community initiatives. These leaders also reaffirmed their unwavering commitment and pledged their full backing to the Fiaga in his vision for the advancement of Klikor.
Mr. Archibald Darko-Boateng, the Chief Executive Officer of El-Sayus Company Limited, reiterated his company’s steadfast commitment to supporting the campaign’s objectives. He lauded the enthusiastic participation of the citizens in this inaugural event, describing it as a powerful indicator of their deep-seated commitment to maintaining environmental cleanliness within their community. The success of this launch is expected to pave the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant Klikor for generations to come.
