Delta Suya Seller’s Plea: Rescue Abducted Daughter

Abduction of a Three-Year-Old Girl from Delta Community Sparks Urgent Appeal for Rescue

A palpable sense of distress and urgency permeates the Hausa Quarters of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State, Nigeria, following the abduction of a three-year-old girl. Abubakar Isiaka, the distraught father and a local suya seller, has made a fervent plea to security agencies and government authorities for assistance in locating and rescuing his daughter, Sheripha.

The young child, aged three years and eight months, was reportedly abducted on March 7, 2026, under the guise of a friendly encounter during a burial ceremony taking place within the family’s compound. The perpetrator, a woman reportedly dressed in a hijab and speaking fluent Hausa, approached the residence with a deceptive motive.

The Deceptive Encounter

According to Abubakar Isiaka, the woman approached their home claiming to be searching for a well-known resident in the area. Unsuspecting, his wife, unaware of the sinister intentions behind the woman’s query, asked their elder daughter to escort the stranger to the nearby house. Tragically, little Sheripha, barely three years old, followed her older sister and the alleged abductor.

“On their way,” Abubakar recounted, his voice heavy with emotion, “the woman gave my elder daughter ₦200 to buy biscuits. By the time she returned, the woman had disappeared with Sheripha.” This brief, seemingly innocent errand provided the window of opportunity for the abduction.

Immediate Search and Lingering Fear

The family’s immediate realization of Sheripha’s disappearance triggered a swift and desperate response. An alarm was raised, and the incident was promptly reported to the community leader, known locally as the Sariki, as well as the police and local vigilante groups. A comprehensive search operation was immediately launched, involving not only residents but also attendees of the burial ceremony. Despite these concerted efforts, the whereabouts of Sheripha remain unknown, leaving her family in a state of profound anguish and sleepless nights.

“We have not slept since this happened,” Abubakar lamented. “We are pleading with the police and the government to help us bring our child back.” The emotional toll on the family is evident, as they grapple with the agonizing uncertainty of their daughter’s fate.

Official Response and Public Advisory

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that it is actively engaged in efforts to apprehend the suspect and any potential accomplices. SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State, assured the public that the command is dedicating resources to the investigation.

The authorities are urging parents and all members of the community to heighten their vigilance and maintain a close watch over their children. This advisory aims to prevent similar tragic incidents and underscores the importance of collective security awareness. The ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the circumstances surrounding Sheripha’s disappearance and secure her safe return.

The community of Ogwashi-Uku remains on edge as the search for Sheripha continues. The incident highlights the persistent challenges of child abduction and the critical need for robust security measures and community cooperation in safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

The father, Abubakar Isiaka, continues his desperate appeal, hoping that the widespread attention and the efforts of law enforcement will lead to the swift and safe recovery of his beloved daughter. The community stands in solidarity with the family, offering support and praying for Sheripha’s return.
