Lagos DSVA Arrests Man for Severing Partner’s Finger

Domestic Violence Survivor’s Finger Severed in Alleged Attack; Suspect Apprehended

A harrowing incident of alleged domestic violence has come to light in Lagos State, resulting in the severe injury of a woman, reportedly a TikTok user, who claims her partner severed her finger. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of the suspect in connection with the brutal attack.

The agency became aware of the distressing situation through a widely circulated video posted by the survivor, identified online as @anniesglowlagos. Upon seeing the footage, the DSVA stated that it “promptly established contact with the survivor and ensured that the case was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the violent assault occurred on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The case was initially reported to the FESTAC Police Station Tactical Squad and is now being actively handled by the Family Support Unit at the same station.

According to the DSVA’s statement, the survivor alleges that her estranged partner physically assaulted her, inflicting severe injuries that included the loss of a finger. The case has since progressed through the investigative and prosecutorial stages. Law enforcement authorities have reportedly apprehended the alleged perpetrator and conducted a thorough investigation into the matter.

The legal proceedings have advanced rapidly. On March 25, 2026, the case was formally charged to court at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle. The accused has been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre, awaiting further court proceedings.

The DSVA outlined the bail conditions granted to the accused: bail was set at ₦200,000 with the requirement of two sureties. The next court hearing has been scheduled for April 29, 2026. In parallel with the legal action, the agency has ensured that the survivor is receiving comprehensive psychosocial support to aid in her recovery and overall well-being.

Survivor’s Plea for Justice Gains Traction Online

The case gained significant public attention after @anniesglowlagos shared a video on TikTok on March 22, detailing her ordeal. In the clip, she revealed that she was hospitalized and undergoing treatment for her injuries, describing the devastating condition of her hand.

“This hand as it is like this is actually cut into two… I’m actually in the hospital, I’m taking treatment,” she stated in the video, visibly distressed. She also indicated that she possessed more graphic evidence of the assault but was unable to share it on the platform.

The TikTok user expressed her frustration, claiming that despite reporting the incident to the police, she felt that no immediate action was taken. “I’ve gone to the police station in my rights and nothing is actually done about it,” she recounted.

Furthermore, the survivor alleged that the abuse she endured was not an isolated incident but a pattern of behavior that had been ongoing for a considerable period, even though she and the accused do not reside together. “This has actually been going on for a long time… we don’t stay together… I stay on my own while he stay on his own,” she explained. She also disclosed that documenting previous incidents had been challenging, as her phone was often confiscated during abusive episodes.

Describing the most recent attack, she claimed the man came to her residence, physically assaulted her, and inflicted the severe injuries. Adding to the terror, she alleged that the perpetrator fled with her son following the assault and continued to pose a threat to her safety. “Right now this guy ran away with my son… he came to my house, beat me up… I am not safe… this guy has been coming to threaten me,” she pleaded.

In an impassioned appeal to the public, she repeatedly called for assistance and wider awareness, urging viewers to share her story. “Please guys, I need help, and I need justice for this… help me share, repost… let this thing get to the right authority,” she implored.

Lagos State Government’s Stance on Gender-Based Violence

The DSVA took the opportunity to reiterate the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to combating sexual and gender-based violence. The agency emphasized a “zero tolerance for all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence” and encouraged members of the public to be vigilant and report any such incidents they witness.

The statement concluded with a powerful reminder: “Remember, if you see something, say something. SGBV – It Concerns Us All.” This initiative underscores the importance of community involvement in addressing and preventing domestic and sexual violence within the state.
