Kigali, Rwanda – The Ministry of Defence and the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) convened a significant security briefing for Defence Attachés and their associates accredited to Rwanda on Thursday, March 26. The event, held at Defence Headquarters in Kimihurura, provided a vital forum for discussing the nation’s security landscape and the RDF’s multifaceted contributions to global and regional stability.
Thirty-six Defence Attachés and associates participated in the comprehensive briefing. They received in-depth updates on Rwanda’s internal security situation, alongside an assessment of external threats and geopolitical dynamics impacting the region. Furthermore, the RDF shared details regarding its ongoing contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions and its involvement in various bilateral military operations.
Brig Gen Patrick Karuretwa, Director General of International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, highlighted the strategic importance of these regular dialogues. He emphasized that the briefing serves as an indispensable platform for fostering open and frank discussions on the complex security challenges faced both regionally and globally.
“This platform is especially important in the increasingly volatile international security environment we are all navigating,” Brig Gen Karuretwa stated. “Conflicts are escalating, strategic alliances are being tested, and the rules-based international order is under unprecedented pressure. Genuine and constructive partnerships are a strategic imperative.”
The session featured presentations by senior RDF officers, followed by an engaging interactive segment that allowed for detailed questioning and exchange of perspectives among the attendees.
Brig Gen Mohamed Mirghani Yousif Mohamed, Defence Attaché of Sudan to Rwanda and the Dean of the Defence Attachés, expressed gratitude on behalf of the attending diplomats. “We appreciate the comprehensive overview of the current security situation, both internally and externally,” he remarked, underscoring the value of the information shared.
