Pakistan Honours Nearly 2,000 Armed Forces Personnel with Military Awards

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a significant recognition of service and bravery, President Asif Ali Zardari has sanctioned the bestowal of military awards upon an impressive contingent of 1,989 personnel from Pakistan’s Armed Forces and Civil Armed Forces. This prestigious honour, conferred on the occasion of Pakistan Day, underscores the nation’s deep appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices made by its security forces. The recommendations for these awards were formally presented by the Prime Minister, aligning with the provisions of Article 259(2) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973.

The comprehensive list of approved awards reflects a broad spectrum of commendations, acknowledging distinguished service across various ranks and disciplines. A Spectrum of Honours for Valor and Dedication

The conferment of these awards encompasses several highly esteemed military decorations, each signifying a unique level of achievement and contribution. Among the most prominent honours are:

• Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military): This distinguished award, signifying the “Crescent of Excellence,” has been approved for 23 personnel. It is reserved for individuals who have rendered exceptionally meritorious service of the highest order.
• Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military): The “Star of Excellence” will be presented to 100 recipients, recognizing outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the nation’s defence and security.
• Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Military): A total of 136 personnel will receive the “Medal of Excellence,” acknowledging distinguished service and commendable performance in their respective fields.

Beyond these core honours, the awards also include specific recognitions for exceptional bravery and service in challenging circumstances:

• Sitara-i-Basalat: Eleven individuals have been selected to receive the “Star of Valour,” an award bestowed upon those who have displayed extraordinary courage in the face of danger.
• Tamgha-i-Basalat: A substantial 475 personnel will be honoured with the “Medal of Valour,” recognizing acts of bravery and gallantry in the line of duty.
• Imtiazi Sanad: This special commendation will be awarded to 130 individuals, acknowledging exceptional performance and meritorious service beyond the call of duty.

Recognizing Sustained Service Through Tamgha-i-Khidmat

In addition to awards for bravery and excellence, a significant number of personnel are being recognized for their sustained and dedicated service through the Tamgha-i-Khidmat (Military) awards. These medals are categorized into three classes, reflecting different lengths and qualities of service:

• Tamgha-i-Khidmat (Military) Class-I: This highest class of the Service Medal will be presented to 175 personnel, acknowledging long and distinguished service characterized by exceptional performance and dedication.
• Tamgha-i-Khidmat (Military) Class-II: A total of 319 personnel will receive the Class-II Service Medal, recognizing commendable and meritorious service over a significant period.
• Tamgha-i-Khidmat (Military) Class-III: The Class-III Service Medal will be awarded to 620 personnel, acknowledging diligent and satisfactory service that has contributed to the overall effectiveness of the forces.
