Anthony Kim Offers Powerful Message of Support to Tiger Woods Following DUI Arrest
The golfing world has been abuzz with news surrounding Tiger Woods’ recent DUI arrest, prompting a heartfelt and personal message of support from fellow LIV Golf star Anthony Kim. Kim, who has openly chronicled his own journey with sobriety, reached out to the golf legend, urging him to find solace in faith.
Woods, aged 50, was taken into custody on Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, Florida. Reports indicate the incident occurred when Woods allegedly attempted to overtake a truck and trailer at a high speed on a residential road. The manoeuvre resulted in his SUV clipping the rear of the vehicle and subsequently flipping onto its side. After extricating himself from the passenger side window, Woods reportedly refused to provide a urine sample to law enforcement, leading to his arrest on charges including DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Kim, who himself has navigated the challenging path of addiction and recovery, shared his thoughts on the situation via social media. “Dunno wat @tigerwoods is dealin w & it isn’t my business,” Kim wrote. “As some1 who has & will always deal w my own issues like every other human I pray the man who positively influenced my life and millions of others overcomes wat he is going thru. Trust GOD.” He further emphasised his stance on recovery by adding, “‘SOBER is DOPE,’ he added alongside a flame emoji.”
Kim’s own story is one of remarkable resilience. He burst onto the professional golf scene in 2006, quickly making a name for himself with impressive achievements. He holds the record for the most birdies in a single round at The Masters with 11, has secured three victories on the US PGA Tour, and is a Ryder Cup champion. However, his burgeoning career was derailed in 2014 by struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, a battle that took him nearly a decade to overcome.
Now, three years sober, the Californian golfer has made a stunning comeback. In February, he clinched the LIV Golf Adelaide title, triumphing over a field that included esteemed players like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Bryson DeChambeau. Speaking after his victory in Australia, Kim articulated his motivation: “‘When I was in rehab, that was my goal,’ Kim said after hoisting the trophy in Australia. ‘So absolutely my goal is to inspire the people that are struggling because I feel like the world needs more of that.’” His core message to those facing adversity is simple yet profound: “‘Don’t fing quit. That’s it. Don’t fing quit.’”
A History of Incidents for Tiger Woods
Woods’ recent arrest marks another difficult chapter in a series of well-documented DUI arrests and car accidents. In 2021, he was involved in a serious single-vehicle crash in California, which resulted in severe injuries to his right leg, requiring multiple surgeries.

Prior to that, in 2017, Woods was arrested for his first DUI. Police found him asleep in his car in Florida, with toxicology reports later revealing five drugs in his system, including prescription painkillers.
Despite these setbacks and the ongoing physical challenges he has faced, Woods has consistently expressed his desire to return to competitive golf. Much like Kim, he has been working towards a comeback, recently participating in the TGL finals just days before his latest incident. Speculation had even mounted about a potential return at The Masters next month, though this latest event casts a significant shadow over such prospects.
The Arrest and Aftermath
Law enforcement released Woods’ mugshot shortly after 10 pm, showing him with puffy and bloodshot eyes. He was later released on bail and departed the jail, where he was met by a throng of fans and reporters.

At the accident scene, Woods initially passed a breathalyzer test, registering “triple zeros.” However, he subsequently refused to provide a urine sample on two occasions: once at the roadside and again at the jail. Sheriff Budensiek commented on the situation, stating, “‘He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, so he was careful in what he said and didn’t say,’ Sheriff Budensiek explained. ‘When it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.’”
The Sheriff further elaborated, “‘On scene, we had [Drug Recognition] experts evaluating him and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired with alcohol, but they believe it was some type of medication or drug. And again, at the jail he cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine [test] he wanted no part in.’ He added, “‘He has a right to refuse that test. There is a statute that he will be charged with for refusing to take that test, but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.’” This refusal means that the exact substance or substances contributing to his impairment at the time of the crash may remain undetermined.
