Zamfara Abduction Foiled: Woman, Six Children Rescued

Zamfara Police Rescue Woman and Six Children from Abductors

Zamfara State Police Command has successfully rescued a woman and her six children who were abducted by suspected gunmen. The victims were taken from their home in the Nasarawa area of Damba District, Gusau Local Government Area, on Wednesday night.

The incident, which occurred around 10:50 p.m., saw armed assailants invade the family’s residence. The husband of the victims, Muhammad Lawal, promptly alerted a nearby police division, triggering an immediate and decisive response from law enforcement.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, the Divisional Police Officer swiftly mobilised a patrol team to the scene. Upon arrival, the operatives encountered the attackers and engaged them in a significant gun battle.

The police statement detailed the confrontation: “The team engaged the bandits in a fierce confrontation, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee.” This intense exchange led to the safe recovery of all seven individuals. “Subsequently, all the victims were successfully rescued unhurt and safely reunited with their families.”

The Zamfara State Police Command has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state. Authorities are urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasizing that such cooperation is vital in combating criminal activities.

This successful rescue operation follows closely on the heels of another significant counter-insurgency success reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency platform. Just days prior, the platform reported the rescue of 15 kidnap victims in the Bungudu Local Government Area.

These 15 individuals had originally been abducted in December 2025. They were reportedly intercepted by a patrol team during a routine operation. Following their rescue, the victims were taken to a primary healthcare centre in Nahuche for immediate medical attention.

However, the report from Zagazola Makama also highlighted the tragic toll of the captivity. It indicated that seven of the rescued victims had unfortunately succumbed to their ordeal while in the hands of their abductors. Furthermore, three other individuals remain unaccounted for, and efforts are reportedly ongoing to secure their release and safe return. The ongoing challenges in the region underscore the persistent need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance.
