Ramadan’s Wisdom: Muslims Called to Uphold Teachings

Adherence to Ramadan’s Teachings Key for Muslim Faithful in Imo State

Muslim faithful in Imo State have been strongly urged to uphold the spiritual and ethical lessons learned during the recently concluded 30-day Ramadan fast. This crucial message was delivered by the Sarkin Hausawa and traditional ruler of the northern community in Imo State, Alhaji Auwal Baba Sulaiman, during a press briefing held in Owerri, following the Eid-el-Fitri prayers.

Alhaji Baba Sulaiman expressed profound joy at the successful completion of the month of Ramadan. However, he also acknowledged the somber reality that some individuals who commenced the fasting and prayers did not live to witness its conclusion, while many others were able to complete it through divine grace. He took the opportunity to offer prayers to Allah, seeking acceptance of their acts of worship and forgiveness for their sins.

The Sarkin Hausawa implored his fellow Muslim faithful to resist the temptation of reverting to old habits and to remain steadfast in the spirit of sincere repentance. “The most important thing for us is to adhere to the lessons of fasting and prayers and keep to their purpose, rather than going back to our old life and behaviours. If they are found otherwise, it means that the repentance is not from the heart,” he stated.

He further elaborated on the profound significance of fasting, emphasizing that its core purpose is to foster positive and lasting changes in the character of every Muslim. Alhaji Baba Sulaiman cautioned that any Muslim who fails to observe the stipulated rules of Ramadan or engages in misconduct risks facing divine judgment.

Turning his attention to the prevailing security situation in the nation, the Sarkin Hausawa candidly acknowledged that Nigeria continues to grapple with significant security challenges. These issues, he noted, are particularly acute in the northern regions but have also cast a shadow over other parts of the country.

In addressing this critical concern, Alhaji Baba Sulaiman posited that the most effective remedy for the current insecurity lies in collective prayer by Nigerians, seeking divine intervention. Consequently, he issued a fervent call to all residents of the state, urging them to unite in prayer to help curb the pervasive insecurity plaguing the land. He stressed that a unified approach, underpinned by faith, is essential in overcoming these formidable obstacles. The spiritual discipline cultivated during Ramadan, he emphasized, provides a strong foundation for this collective endeavor.
