Lao Man Confesses to Gruesome Murder

Brutal Murder in Bangkok: Suspect Confesses to Dismemberment Fueled by Jealousy

Bangkok police have apprehended a 24-year-old Lao national who has confessed to a gruesome murder, detailing how he dismembered his estranged girlfriend’s body using a kitchen knife after succumbing to jealousy. The suspect, identified only as “Tom,” was brought to the capital from Nong Khai, a northeastern border province, for interrogation following his arrest on Wednesday night.

According to Pol Lt Gen Siam Boonsom, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, jealousy was the primary motive behind the brutal act. The narrative of the crime, as recounted by the suspect to investigators, paints a disturbing picture of a relationship’s tragic end.

Tom reportedly entered Thailand legally through Nong Khai on August 19 of the previous year. He subsequently relocated to Bangkok, securing employment as a cook at a hospital in the Lak Si district. He had been living with his 20-year-old girlfriend in an apartment located in the Chaeng Watthana district. However, their relationship took a turn when the girlfriend left their shared residence last month.

The suspect’s investigation into her whereabouts led him to social media platforms, where he discovered she had found work as a waitress at a bar in Chon Buri. He travelled to Chon Buri and brought her back to their Bangkok apartment.

During police questioning, Tom stated that he had attempted to persuade his girlfriend to return with him to Laos. Her refusal, stemming from her desire to continue working in Thailand, reportedly led to intense frustration for Tom. In a fit of rage, he confessed to strangling her.

Following the murder, Tom described how he moved the body to the bathroom. There, he admitted to using a short knife, a utensil from his own kitchen, to dismember her body.

Investigators have been reviewing CCTV footage which corroborates parts of Tom’s account. The footage shows the couple entering their apartment on Sunday, but only Tom is seen leaving the room on Monday, a detail that raised suspicion.

To conceal his crime, the suspect revealed that he purchased several garbage bags from a nearby convenience store. He used these bags to wrap the dismembered body parts before disposing of them. He confessed to dropping eight bags along the Prapa canal in the Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi. Authorities are actively searching for the victim’s missing right arm and hips, which were not recovered from the canal.

Tom also admitted to taking cash belonging to the victim, totalling 4,050 baht. His attempt to evade capture began on Tuesday morning when he travelled to Don Mueang airport. He boarded a flight to Udon Thani. From there, he utilized a ride-hailing application to summon a motorcyclist for transport to Nong Khai. It was in Nong Khai, on Tuesday night, that he was apprehended by authorities, preventing him from crossing the border back into Laos. The investigation is ongoing as police work to piece together the full timeline of events and recover any further evidence.
