A group of forty National Service Personnel (NSP) from TDC Ghana Limited, designated for the 2025-2026 service year, has successfully concluded a comprehensive two-week basic military orientation program. The intensive training took place at the Ghana Armed Forces’ 1st Infantry Battalion, located at Michel Camp, and concluded on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The cohort, comprising 32 males and 18 females, commenced their training on March 9, 2026, undergoing a demanding schedule of drills and practical sessions meticulously designed to cultivate discipline and resilience.
The curriculum was carefully structured to impart a diverse range of essential skills, preparing the young individuals for both their national service duties and their future professional lives. Key areas of focus included:
The passing-out ceremony was a significant event, marked by addresses from key figures who underscored the profound objectives of the program. Ruth Dela Seddoh, Director-General of the Authority, clarified that the initiative’s primary aim is not to militarize the youth but rather to instill a deep sense of civic responsibility and patriotism. She highlighted that this concept, long under consideration, gained considerable momentum and renewed attention following its endorsement by John Mahama during the 2025 State of the Nation Address. In that address, he specifically pointed out the program’s potential to shape individuals into responsible and productive members of society.
Madam Seddoh also revealed that plans are well underway to implement this program on a nationwide scale by July. She extended commendation to Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, for his proactive leadership in spearheading this initiative for the company’s national service personnel. She expressed her satisfaction with the training outcomes, noting that the participants had demonstrably developed the discipline, physical fitness, and mental alertness crucial for their upcoming roles and their broader career trajectories.
Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, addressed the graduating NSPs, emphasizing that the program was conceived as more than just a routine exercise. He urged the personnel to embody the core values of discipline, service, and integrity as they embark on their national service. “It is not merely about passing out; it is about transformation,” he stated emphatically. “Over the past two weeks, you have stepped outside your comfort zones and navigated through discipline, resilience, order, and respect for authority. These are not transient lessons; they are enduring values that must shape your thinking and your service.”
Mr. Nunekpeku encouraged the NSPs to integrate three guiding principles into their work at TDC Ghana Limited:
The Managing Director further challenged the graduates to distinguish themselves through tangible impact. He encouraged them to consistently choose the more difficult but ethically sound path over easier, less principled alternatives, and to be individuals who consistently deliver results, even in environments where excuses may be prevalent.
“Leadership is not defined by titles,” Mr. Nunekpeku asserted. “It begins with taking ownership of your actions and your contributions, irrespective of your position. At TDC Ghana Limited, we are unwavering in our commitment to excellence, accountability, and service. You are now an integral part of this mission. Rise to the occasion and play your vital role in building a stronger institution and a better Ghana.”
This pioneering initiative forms a crucial part of a broader strategy introduced by the National Service Authority. The aim is to systematically instill discipline, foster a spirit of patriotism, and cultivate a profound sense of national responsibility among all service personnel across the country. The successful completion of this orientation program by the TDC Ghana Limited cohort marks a significant step forward in this ambitious endeavor to shape a more dedicated and capable future workforce for Ghana.
