Creamy Fish and Chip Pie Recipe

This creamy fish and chip pie is a delightful combination of tender white fish, a rich bechamel sauce, and crispy fries. Ingredients

To make this dish, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 490g jar of bechamel sauce
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup finely grated parmesan
  • ¹⁄³ cup thinly sliced fresh chives
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1kg boneless, skinless, thick white fish fillets, cut into 4cm pieces
  • 2 tbsp plain flour

For the topping, you will also need:

  • 1kg bag frozen French fries
  • ¾ cup finely grated parmesan

Method

Step 1:

In a large jug, whisk together the bechamel sauce, sour cream, parmesan, chives, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and crushed garlic until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

Step 2:

Place the fish fillets in an oiled, large ovenproof dish with a 12-cup capacity. Sprinkle the flour over the fish, seasoned with salt and pepper. Toss the fish to coat it evenly. Arrange the pieces in a single layer on the bottom of the dish. Pour the sauce mixture over the fish.

Step 3:

Bake the dish uncovered in a preheated oven at 200°C for approximately 35 minutes. This allows the fish to cook through while the sauce thickens and coats the fillets.

Step 4:

For the topping, spread the frozen French fries evenly on a large oven tray. Place the tray in the same oven and bake for about 30 minutes, turning the fries halfway through the cooking time. This ensures they become golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, transfer the fries to a large bowl and add the grated parmesan. Toss the mixture to coat the fries evenly.

Step 5:

After the fish has finished baking, remove it from the oven. Carefully arrange the fried topping over the top of the fish. Return the dish to the oven for an additional 10 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crisp. Allow the dish to stand for 5 minutes before serving. This helps the sauce settle and makes it easier to serve.
