A Call for Integrity and Unity in Ghana
Mr Castro Yakubu Yussif, the West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, has emphasized the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability among leaders at all levels. His message is aimed at restoring and strengthening public trust in government. He believes that building a just, prosperous, peaceful, and united Ghana requires collective efforts to strengthen the economy, improve governance, and renew the confidence of citizens in leadership.
This call was made during a ceremony organized by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly to mark this year’s Independence Day celebrations. The event featured a colorful march-past parade involving school children at Damongo in the Savannah Region. It brought together traditional leaders, the clergy, heads of institutions, security services, political party representatives, and students to celebrate the nation’s 69th Independence anniversary.
Pupils and students from 15 schools, covering kindergarten, primary, and junior high levels, participated in the parade. Their presence showcased discipline and patriotism, reflecting the spirit of national unity and pride.
Mr Yussif highlighted the national theme: “Building Prosperity and Restoring Hope.” He explained that this theme serves as a reminder that independence requires continuous commitment and responsibility from every citizen. It underscores the need for active participation and dedication towards the development of the country.
In addition to the Independence Day celebrations, Mr Yussif spoke about ongoing development projects in the municipality. The area has been designated for the establishment of two universities and a Girls’ Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to the educational and economic growth of the region.
Other ongoing projects include the construction of three three-unit classroom blocks and three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at various locations within the municipality. These developments aim to improve access to quality education and healthcare services for the local population.
Mr Yussif also urged pupils and students to take their education seriously. He encouraged them to embrace discipline, patriotism, and hard work while avoiding acts that could jeopardize their future. His message was clear: the future of the nation lies in the hands of its youth, and they must be prepared to contribute positively to society.
He further appealed to members of the public to avoid divisive language and actions. Instead, he encouraged them to promote dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect. By fostering a culture of understanding and cooperation, he believes that national unity can be strengthened.
The event provided an opportunity for various stakeholders to come together and reflect on the importance of unity and shared responsibility in achieving national goals. It served as a reminder that the journey towards a prosperous and united Ghana is a collective effort that requires the participation of all citizens.
As the celebrations concluded, the participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to the ideals of independence and national progress. The message delivered by Mr Yussif resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the belief that through integrity, transparency, and collective action, Ghana can overcome challenges and achieve lasting prosperity.
