Military Operation Rescues 19 Kidnapped Victims in Federal Capital Territory

Troops from the 7 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with members of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have successfully rescued 19 individuals who had been kidnapped during a coordinated search-and-rescue operation in Gidan Dogo. The mission took place within the Bwari Area Council, which is part of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This operation was initiated after credible intelligence was received regarding the location of terrorists involved in the recent abduction of residents from the Byazhin area.

In a statement released to defense correspondents in Abuja, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Guards Brigade Headquarters, Olawuyi Odunola Itunuoluwa, detailed the events of the operation. According to the statement, the troops engaged the bandits, leading to a gun battle. During this confrontation, one of the criminals was neutralized, while several others fled the scene, reportedly suffering from gunshot wounds.

The military also managed to recover several weapons during the operation, including an AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm. These findings highlight the ongoing threat posed by armed groups operating in the region.

“All the 19 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and evacuated to safety,” the statement noted. Following the successful operation, the troops returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari, while the rescued victims are currently receiving care and support.
