Iranian Ambassador Assures Nigerian Citizens of Safety Amid Regional Tensions

The Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, has issued a strong assurance that Nigerian citizens currently residing in Iran are safe and secure. During a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, the envoy emphasized that there have been no reports of casualties or injuries among Nigerians in Iran. He highlighted that some of these citizens are located in Tehran, while others reside in cities like Qom and other parts of the country.

‘Your citizens in Iran are safe and secure, because some of your citizens are in Tehran, some of them are in Qom and the other cities. So far, we haven’t received any reports regarding Nigerian casualties or injuries,’ he said.

He further reiterated, ‘Be sure about your citizens in Iran.’ The ambassador also pointed out that diplomatic relations between Iran and Nigeria have remained strong for over five decades. This long-standing relationship continues to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians living in the Islamic Republic.

‘Our relationship goes back more than 55 years ago. During these decades, we have good relations, and now we already have good relations,’ he stated.

According to the ambassador, both countries maintain cooperation across multiple sectors, including politics, agriculture, energy, education, and industry. This collaboration underscores the mutual trust and respect that underpin their bilateral ties.
