Arrest of Two Suspected Bandits in Kwara State
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the arrest of two suspected bandits in a recent intelligence-led operation. The incident took place in the Saminaka Community, within the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State. The suspects, Abubakar Jubril, aged 28, and Mohammed Abubakar, aged 26, were apprehended on Tuesday, 3rd March 2026, after being under sustained surveillance by NSCDC operatives.
According to the NSCDC, the two suspects were part of a group of three individuals who were observed in a high-risk area. While two of them were successfully arrested, one managed to escape and is currently at large. This highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security agencies in tackling criminal activities in the region.
During the operation, several items were recovered from the arrested suspects. These included a pistol with serial number 7886, manufactured in the United States, a mobile phone, drugs in the form of Tramadol, and cigarettes. The recovery of these items underscores the potential threat posed by the suspects and their activities.
Commandant’s Statement on Security Measures
Speaking during the parade of the suspects on Friday in Ilorin, the Kwara State Commandant, Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga, reiterated the command’s commitment to addressing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout the state. He emphasized that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspect who escaped.
Commandant Bodinga issued a stern warning to those involved in criminal acts, urging them to cease their activities or face the full force of the law. He stressed that the NSCDC will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to bring offenders to justice and maintain public safety.
In addition to this, the Commandant called on the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could aid security agencies in their operations. This collaboration between the community and security forces is crucial in maintaining peace and order in the region.
Next Steps for the Suspects
The Commandant also mentioned that the arrested suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is completed or transferred to the appropriate security agency for further inquiry. This step ensures that the legal process is followed appropriately, allowing for a thorough examination of the evidence gathered during the operation.
The arrest of these two suspects marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat crime in Kwara State. It reflects the determination of the NSCDC to uphold law and order and protect the citizens from the threats posed by criminal elements.
Ongoing Challenges and Public Involvement
Despite the successful arrest, the fact that one suspect remains at large indicates that the fight against crime is far from over. The NSCDC continues to monitor the situation closely and is actively working to identify and apprehend the remaining individual. This ongoing effort requires the cooperation and support of the local community.
Public vigilance plays a critical role in this process. By reporting any suspicious activities or providing information to the authorities, residents can contribute significantly to the safety of their communities. The NSCDC encourages everyone to stay alert and to work together in maintaining peace and security.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for criminal acts are held accountable. The actions taken by the NSCDC demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting the people of Kwara State and upholding the rule of law.
