Ratepayers in Ampang Jaya urged to pay up

NEARLY 2,000 property owners were issued notices this month by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) for failing to settle outstanding assessment taxes.

Council deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari said the action targeted residential and commercial account holders in Pandan Perdana and Taman Bukit Teratai, with combined arrears amounting to RM2.9mil.

“The public is reminded to pay up within the deadline to avoid seizure of assets from their premises,” he said.

Speaking during the council’s full board meeting at its headquarters in Pandan Indah, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ was projected to collect RM103.5mil in assessment this year, in addition to RM20.1mil in arrears.

As of Jan 31, the council has received RM16.3mil (15.8%) in assessment payment and RM1.4mil (7.3%) in arrears, he said.

To encourage payment, Hasrolnizam said MPAJ had activated mobile counters at selected locations throughout February.

Those who pay a lump sum for 2026 would be eligible to take part in MPAJ’s lucky draw competition, slated to be held in June.

In addition to 40 home appliances, prizes also include a car and a motorcycle, he said.

On another issue, Hasrolnizam said 7,700 business premises owners had renewed their licences as of Feb 24.

He said the fees brought in RM6.6mil in revenue while 850 business premises were fined for late renewal of their licences, resulting in the collection of RM306,000.

Some 4,000 micro entrepreneurs also renewed their licences, generating RM1.8mil in income for the council.

Separately, Hasrolnizam said the council had begun issuing temporary licences for lemang traders in the municipality.
