Star Actor Lists Lavish California Estate Amidst Legal Woes
A sprawling and meticulously designed estate in Ojai, California, once owned by actor and filmmaker Justin Baldoni, has hit the market for a staggering $8.88 million. The sale comes as the 42-year-old and his wife, Emily, navigate ongoing legal challenges, including a high-profile lawsuit filed by actress Blake Lively.

The property, located northwest of Los Angeles in Ventura County, was purchased by Baldoni in 2020 for $2.2 million. Since then, the couple has invested significantly in extensive renovations, transforming the contemporary Spanish-style mansion into what is described in the listing as a “rare retreat-style compound.” If sold at the asking price, the transaction would represent a profit exceeding $6 million for the couple, before accounting for renovation costs.

The timing of the listing, which reportedly occurred on February 5th, shortly after a lucrative rental listing for the same property was removed, has raised questions about its connection to the ongoing legal dispute with Blake Lively. Lively’s sexual harassment lawsuit, stemming from her experience working with Baldoni on the romantic drama It Ends With Us, was initially slated for a March 9th court date but has since been rescheduled to May 18th. Baldoni has vehemently denied all allegations made by Lively and previously filed his own defamation lawsuit against her, which was later dismissed.
A Sanctuary Designed for Wellness and Entertainment
Baldoni’s former residence, situated in Ojai’s Santa Paula neighbourhood, is more than just a home; it’s presented as a lifestyle destination. The main house boasts five bedrooms spread across an impressive 5,200 square feet, all set on 10 acres of land nestled at the foothills of the Topa Topa Mountains.
The compound’s design philosophy, as explained by the couple, was deeply influenced by the natural beauty of Ojai and their travels. “We also live in such a magical place in Ojai. And so we also wanted to let that inspire our home,” Emily Baldoni shared in a previous interview. “We have mountains. There’s rock, stone, water — it’s very earthy, very natural, and absolutely gorgeous. We wanted it to feel like a sanctuary when we come home.”
This emphasis on natural elements and wellness is evident throughout the property. A key feature highlighted in the listing is a state-of-the-art, medical-grade air filtration system, a welcome amenity for potential buyers concerned about wildfire smoke or air pollution. Additionally, the master bedroom is equipped with electromagnetic frequency shielding, catering to a niche interest in environmental health.
Extensive Amenities for a Luxurious Lifestyle
Beyond the main residence, the estate offers a wealth of amenities designed for both relaxation and recreation. The property includes:
- Guest and Staff Accommodation: A separate, smaller house provides convenient living quarters for guests or household staff.
- Unique Domes: Two distinctive “yoga dome” and “guest dome” structures, noted as being imported from Poland, were added during the extensive two-year renovation of the main mansion.
- Outdoor Living: A saltwater pool and an elevated hot tub offer prime spots for unwinding. The grounds also feature a “regenerative orchard,” a soothing koi pond complete with a waterfall, and a fire pit perfect for evening gatherings.
- Recreational Facilities: Active residents will appreciate the basketball and pickleball courts, a custom-built gym, and a unique, illuminated in-ground trampoline.
- Practical Features: The expansive grounds are crisscrossed with walking paths, and electric car owners will find ample charging stations. For added peace of mind, the property is equipped with an up-to-date security system and a fire mitigation system.

The listing further describes the estate as having been “designed as both a luxury residence, and a retreat and event venue,” promising a lifestyle “unlike anything else in the region.” The orientation and design are said to promote “balance, flow, and harmony,” with health and wellness being central to its conception.
Interior Design Inspired by Global Travels and Feng Shui
The interior design of the Baldoni residence draws inspiration from a blend of international influences and personal philosophies. In a 2023 profile, Justin Baldoni revealed that much of the home’s furnishings were sourced from Pottery Barn, with design cues taken from their trips to Mexico, particularly Tulum, and the local Ojai landscape.
“We had a little bit of a vision. When we went to Tulum and parts of Mexico, we would take pictures of lamps, or couches — just as inspiration — and then we started to put together a Pinterest board of things that we liked,” he explained.
Adding another layer to the home’s unique character, Baldoni’s mother, a certified feng shui master, played a significant role in the interior design process. “Every place that we have lived in, we’ve had my mom feng shui, and it has really changed the energy of the space and brought us a lot of really good fortune,” Baldoni stated. “So we designed the whole house with feng shui in mind.” This spiritual and energetic approach to design is intended to imbue the property with a sense of peace and positive fortune for its future inhabitants.

The property was previously available for rent at a substantial $40,000 per month, indicating its desirability and the premium associated with its unique features and location. This sale offers a rare opportunity for a discerning buyer seeking a private, versatile, and health-conscious retreat that doubles as a potential investment property.
