Kelly Erupts, Morgan Watches: A Media Meltdown

MAGA Pundit’s Super Bowl Outburst Sparks Widespread Mockery

A recent appearance by a prominent MAGA pundit on a British YouTube program has ignited a firestorm of criticism and amusement, with political analysts and observers lambasting her seemingly unhinged commentary on American football and cultural identity. The pundit, Megyn Kelly, joined host Piers Morgan on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” to dissect the halftime performance at Super Bowl LX, delivered by Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny.

Kelly’s central grievance revolved around Bad Bunny’s decision to perform his set largely in Spanish, which she controversially labelled a “middle finger to the rest of America.” This declaration was made despite portions of the performance being delivered in English.

“Who gives a damn if we have 40 million people who speak Spanish?” Kelly reportedly exclaimed during the broadcast. “We have 310 million people who don’t speak a lick of Spanish! This is supposed to be a unifying event for the country, not for the Latinos, or for one small group, but for the country.”

As the discussion with Morgan progressed, Kelly’s rhetoric escalated, becoming increasingly heated and, according to many, irrational. She went on to suggest that the Super Bowl halftime show should also eliminate the playing of the “Black National Anthem” and outright ban any performers deemed “ICE haters.” In a particularly striking moment, Kelly claimed that Morgan’s probing questions were indicative of “why Great Britain lost its culture.”

The intensity of her statements culminated in Kelly shouting, “Football is ours!” directly at Morgan, a phrase that quickly became a focal point for widespread derision.

A Chorus of Criticism and Bewilderment

The pundit’s impassioned outburst did not go unnoticed by the wider political and media landscape. Social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), were abuzz with sharp critiques and incredulous reactions from various figures.

Democratic strategist Mike Nellis encapsulated the sentiment of many when he posted on X, “Megyn Kelly just shouting ‘FOOTBALL IS OURS’ at Piers Morgan about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show is the perfect example of this moment in time. Put it in a time capsule and send it out into space.” This comment highlighted the perceived absurdity and cultural disconnect in Kelly’s pronouncements.

David French, a columnist for The New York Times, offered a more analytical take, posting on X, “At the end of the day, this outrage isn’t just performative, it’s really, really weird. That level of emotion over arguably the most popular singer in the world performing at a halftime show is just bizarre. It’s so hard to believe it’s real.” His sentiment echoed a feeling of disbelief at the depth of Kelly’s animosity towards a popular cultural event.

Journalist and founder of Zeteo News, Mehdi Hasan, expressed alarm at the broader implications of Kelly’s statements. He tweeted, “Megyn Kelly just causally spouting insane far-right conspiracies. It’s truly amazing how many US conservatives now genuinely seem to believe the UK is some sort of Islamic state. Also, can you imagine if she spoke about Jews the way she speaks about Muslims?” This pointed to what Hasan perceived as a concerning trend of conspiratorial thinking and Islamophobia within certain conservative circles.

Other commentators seized on specific elements of Kelly’s rant. Democratic candidate Sarah McGee humorously questioned, “I apologize that you have to watch the entire video to hear what I am talking about, but who serves MEATLOAF at a Super Bowl party?” This jab highlighted the triviality of some of Kelly’s complaints when juxtaposed with the actual event.

Adding a counterpoint to Kelly’s criticism of Bad Bunny’s message, political commentator Richard Bacon posted on X, “Bad Bunny also performed with a massive sign behind him saying the only thing more powerful than hate is love. Guess she missed it.” This served as a reminder of the positive and unifying themes present in the performance that Kelly appeared to overlook or dismiss.

The controversy surrounding Megyn Kelly’s Super Bowl commentary underscores a broader cultural debate about language, representation, and national identity in the United States, with her public statements serving as a lightning rod for strong opinions and widespread ridicule.
